This half term we will be looking at Traditional Tales and Nursery Rhymes. Each week we will introduce a new story, sharing the text via books, The interactive white board (IWB) and songs/rhymes. We will be looking at the characters within, the homes they lived in, the morals of the story and the lay out and sequence of a traditional fairy tale. To support your child's learning we will read the children a variety of pieces of the same story to compare & contrast. During the topic there will be some fantastic opportunities to retell stories using story boards, maps and puppets, look at houses and homes and build structures like bridges in the construction area, develop imagination in the role play area, talk about emotions to develop a deeper understanding of right and wrong. This half term our role play will help us develop a variety of skills including literacy, mathematics, imaginative & creative play as well as curiosity, independence and team work! We will be exploring a 'Fairy Tale Bakers', 'Fantasy Construction site' and 'Santa's Workshop'. Any resources that you feel may enhance the children's experience and play please donate clearly labelled. Thank you for your support!
Whilst we do have some wonderful fiction and non-fiction books at school, the local libraries can offer so, so much more! On each weekly page, there are some great examples of texts that support the weekly theme and all books in green can be accessed at either Staines or Ashford library. The library is free to join and to loan books and you can now pre-order books for children for free by going online! Please do make use of such a wonderful resource.
