Bengal Tigers - Year 2

Welcome to Bengal Tiger Class!!

Welcome back to our last term in Year 2! We had such a brilliant first half of the summer term and the children all worked so hard towards their SATs. This is going to be a far more relaxing term with lots of creative writing, arts and crafts as well as practical maths lessons.

This term our topic will be 'Around the World.' We are going to be exploring lots of myths and tales from all around the world and looking in-depth at different cultures.

Reading at Home

The children have been working incredibly hard on their creative writing and language this term and there is some wonderful literature around that supports this. Here are some of my top rated books:

'The True Stories of the three Little Pigs' by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith

'Mr Magnolia' by Quentin Blake

'Little House in the Big Woods' by Laura Ingalls Wilder

'The Arrival' by Shaun Tan

Reading Books

This half term we are going to slightly change the weekly book distribution. We will continue to give out the five books, but will hand them out on a Friday instead of the Monday so they have new books for the weekend. The children are encouraged to read books from home as well and we are happy for these to be recorded in their reading diaries. When we can, we will also take the children into the library to choose an additional book to take home with them.We will try to do this as often as we can, however we don't always have the additional adults to take them to the library so some weeks this may not happen.

Homework

Homework is going to continue to be given out on the Thursday and taken back in on the Tuesday. It will consist of either Maths or English tasks as well as times tables. We are doing times tables tests every day now so encourage the children to practise as much as they can at home.

Spelling Test

To allow us time to mark and distribute the spellings we will be handing them out on a Friday with the reading books and continue to do the spelling test on Thursday after morning break.

PE

PE takes place on a Monday afternoon and a Tuesday morning. It is taught by teachers from an external company- Sports4Kids. Please ensure all uniform and PE it is labelled to avoid items getting lost!

If you have any questions or concerns at any point  please do pop in at the start of the day or at pick-up to come and speak to me. I believe a big part of your child's success is strong school-home links and communication.

I really look forward to meeting you all properly and getting to know you!
