Bengal Tigers - Year 2

Welcome to Bengal Tiger Class!!

Welcome back to the final term, I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday and feel rested. This is a long term and it is filled with exciting topics to cover, art projects and books to read!

This term our topic will be 'The United Kingdom.' It is an interesting topic where the children will be learning about geographical and physical features of the UK as well as exploring the countries that make it up. The children will take part in on-line learning and art projects to broaden their understanding of the UK.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point  please do pop in at the start of the day or at pick-up to come and speak to me. I believe a big part of your child's success is a result of strong school-home links and communication.

Reading at Home

In Year 2, we are very enthusiastic about reading and encourage the children to read for pleasure at every opportunity. It is also an important foundation for their learning, as without the ability to read, the children will find all other areas of the curriculum tricky. There are a number of wonderful stories and fairy-tales which link into our topic and are well worth a read:

Traction Man is Here by Mini Grey

Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett

Amazing Grace bu Mary Hoffman

Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper

Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book? By Lauren Child

Reading Books

Reading book will be changed and replaced on Monday or Tuesday. We are very lucky to have Miss fell's help with this and she is a very busy lady. Therefore If the books are not in the reading box on Monday or Tuesday morning, they will not be changed until the following week. The children will be given a week to read five books. Please make sure you fill out their reading record so we know whether they have read or not. If there is no indication as to whether they have read, we will assume they haven't and will send the same books back.

Homework is going to continue to be given out on the Thursday and taken back in on the Tuesday. It will consist of either Maths or English tasks as well as times tables. We are doing times tables tests every day now so encourage the children to practise as much as they can at home.

Spelling Test

To allow us time to mark and distribute the spellings we will be handing them out on a Friday with the reading books and continue to do the spelling test on Thursday after morning break.

PE takes place on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. It is taught by teachers from an external company- Sports4Kids. Please ensure all uniform and PE it is labelled to avoid items getting lost!
