Welcome to Bengal Tiger Class!!
Welcome to Year 2, I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are excited to begin your Year 2 journey. Year 2 is an exciting year and we cover lots of interesting topics, allowing the children to explore and delve deeper into their learning. Being at the top of Key Stage 1, the children are given more independence, which comes with greater responsibility, and I have no doubt the children will rise to the challenge.
This term our topic will be 'The Victorians.' We are going to be learning all about families, school, work and home-life during the Victorian times and plenty of exciting activities planned for the term. As a school, we have a big focus on reading, so the children will be learning a number of stories, fairy-tales and poems surrounding the Victorian era. We will be incorporating these with drama, music and dance activities.
If you have any questions or concerns at any point please do pop in at the start of the day or at pick-up to come and speak to me. I believe a big part of your child's success is strong school-home links and communication.
I really look forward to meeting you all properly and getting to know you!
Reading at Home
In Year 2, we are very enthusiastic about reading and encourage the children to read for pleasure at every opportunity. There are a number of wonderful stories and fairy-tales which link into our topic and are well worth a read:
Rapunzel- The Brother's Grimm
Hansel and Gretel- The Brother's Grimm
Snow White and Red Rose- The Brother's Grimm
The Swan Princess- The Brother's Grimm
The Frog Prince- The Brother's Grimm
King Thrushbeard- The Brother's Grimm
The Wren and the bear- The Brother's Grimm
Reading book will be changed and replaced on Monday or Tuesday. We are very lucky to have Mrs Gomm's help with this and she is a very busy lady. Therefore If the books are not in the reading box on Monday or Tuesday morning, they will not be changed until the following week. The children will be given a week to read five books. Please make sure you fill out their reading record so we know whether they have read ornot.
Homework is going to continue to be given out on the Thursday and taken back in on the Tuesday. It will consist of either Maths or English tasks as well as times tables. We are doing times tables tests every day now so encourage the children to practise as much as they can at home.
To allow us time to mark and distribute the spellings we will be handing them out on a Friday with the reading books and continue to do the spelling test on Thursday after morning break.
PE takes place on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. It is taught by teachers from an external company- Sports4Kids. Please ensure all uniform and PE it is labelled to avoid items getting lost!
