This half term in Nursery we will be learning all about a variety of traditional foods from around the world! We will be looking at a variety of cultures and exploring some of the typical dishes they may eat. Each week we will introduce a new cuisine and ask your child what they want to find out! Whilst we will have a main focus on food, we may also dip into the beliefs, customs, traditions, landmarks and culture of the place in which we are culinary exploring! We have many different cultures within the class itself so please, if you are able to come in and share some information with the children about your family background, culture and traditions please do! We will also be asking parents on the last week to contribute some food from places from around the world for the children to sample.
As you can imagine, this 'Food from around the World' topic lends itself very well to cooking and this is something we aim to do each week. We will also have three role plays this half term to really develop the children's imagination - the first will be the Thorpe Lea Pizza Parlour, and the second will be a Chinese Restaurant and lastly an Ice Cream and Dessert Shop. Whilst these role plays will help us to develop the children's imagination, it will also let them develop a variety of other skills including, Literacy, Mathematics, curiosity and team work!
Please do have a look at our Medium Term Planning which outlines what are aiming to cover/learn during this topic!
'Hands On' Experiences this half term
Our aim is to provide as many hands on experiences at school which will provide awe and wonder for the children. These include looking after our very own chickens, cooking and vegetable tasting. There are also ideas for home learning and visits on each of the topic theme pages! We will keep you up-to-date with all these experiences via this class page - stay tuned for lots of exciting photos!
We will be engaging in a variety of creative, sensory & cooking activities with your child this half term, which requires us to purchase a range of consumables. We ask parents/carers to make a voluntary contribution of £5 each term to help towards the cost. Thank you for your support.
