Homework

Homework

Home based learning will be either a numeracy, literacy or topic-based homework along with spellings given out on Thursdays and returned the following Tuesday. The children must also make sure that they are continuously practicing their times tables at home.

It is important for the children to take maximum responsibility in their homework but I am always delighted when parents choose to help their children if they are stuck by anything. Should you find yourself equally as confused please do not hesitate to come and see me!

Please remember that I upload the homework sheet week by week and so if your son/daughter has misplaced or forgotten their sheet at school, please have a look here for the weekly homework.

Reading:

Children will be required to read every day for a minimum of ten minutes and we would be grateful if you would sign and date in your child's reading diary each time you read with them. The children are encouraged to complete their diaries themselves, adding any comments or additional information during the day but a parental/guardian signature is necessary. Please use the diary as a way of communicating any information to me about your child if you are unable to see me.

Literacy and Spellings

Your child will be provided with a spelling rule on Thursday and a list of words connected to that rule. On Monday we will complete an activity linked to the spellings ready for the test on Friday. Pupils will have several days to practice their spellings.

The children will also be provided with an additional Literacy or Topic related piece of homework task and if necessary a grammar or punctuation task as well.

Mathematics

Children will be required to practice their times tables every day in preparation for the weekly tables test which will be individually set. I will also set additional challenges which will require children to use the Maths they have learned within the week to help solve the problem or a small set of questions linking to the weekly objective.

Web based

There may be times when we suggest some web based learning for the children, to follow on from the work we do in class. If a computer or the internet is unavailable to the child please let me know and they will be able to complete their work during lunchtime or at the afterschool homework club.
