Thorpe Lea Primary School

'A dedicated community working together, nurturing a safe, happy school where all children can achieve their potential'

Australia is a fascinating country with so many unusual animals and beautiful scenery. I know the class will love learning about this country, especially based off their enthusiasm for learning about the different plants and animals that Darwin found in South America. Each week we will be focusing on a different area of Australia so that we build up our knowledge and develop a well-rounded understanding of the country.

Week 1: Comparing England with Australia

Week 2: Great Barrier Reef

Week 3: Australian territories and famous landmarks

Week 4: Aboriginal culture

Week 5: Discovery of gold

Week 6: Meaning behind the flag

Week 7: Political understanding of the country

It is important that they are not only learning about the country inside the classroom but are also going home and researching Australia so that they are able to understand the country at a higher level.
