Extra information

Homework

Homework in Year One will consist of reading and spellings. Reading at an early age has a huge significance to your child's learning, reading will develop their greater general knowledge, expand their vocabulary and enable them to become more confident and fluent readers. Books will be changed on Monday. Children are expected to read every evening and this must be noted in their reading record books each day. Spellings will be given out on a Friday with children being tested the following Friday. Each child will be given a spelling book and their spelling will be in this book.

Uniform

It is essential that your child comes to school in the correct school uniform and this includes plain black shoes. As we all know things tend to go missing, uniform should be clearly labelled with your child's name. Should you require any further information, or you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me at the beginning, or end of the school day.

Reading

Here at Thorpe Lea, we believe that reading is a fundamental part of your child's development and we want to create and foster a love for reading in every child. Children are being exposed daily to a variety of different texts through Read Write Inc, The Literacy Tree and our afternoon stories from our school's library. Adults take every opportunity that is available to listen to your children reading.
