Homework in Year One will consist of reading and spellings. Reading at an early age has a huge significance to your child's learning, reading will develop their greater general knowledge, expand their vocabulary and enable them to become more confident and fluent readers. Children are expected to read every evening and this must be noted in their reading record books each day. Spellings will be given out on a Thursday with children being tested the following Wednesday. Each child will be given a spelling book and their spelling will be in this book.
It is essential that your child comes to school in the correct school uniform and this includes plain black shoes. As we all know things tend to go missing, uniform should be clearly labelled with your child's name. Should you require any further information, or you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me at the beginning, or end of the school day.
Here at Thorpe Lea, we believe that reading is a fundamental part of your child's development and we want to instill a love for reading in every child. Children are being exposed daily to a variety of different texts through Read Write Inc, The Literacy Tree and our afternoon stories from our school's library. Adults take every opportunity that is available to listen to your children reading. Every morning, Miss Hunter does early morning reading with the children.
