Here at Thorpe-Lea, our main aim is to drill up a sense of enthusiasm for language learning. French is taught across KS2, beginning in year 3 right up to year 6, for 30-minute slots each week by class teachers. Additionally, Spanish is offered as a morning club on Thursdays from 08:00 am - 08:40 am weekly.

We work hard to give students a solid grounding in MFL basics, preparing them well for the KS3 curriculum. We use interactive resources in our language teaching to engage the students and try to incorporate lots of games and songs to maintain their enthusiasm.

Language learning is based on the development of four key skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Our planning allows for good coverage of these skills over the course of the four years. Pupils gradually develop and build on each competency year by year, as well as learning key grammar rules. By the time students reach year 6, they should be able to take part in and understand a basic conversation, write a short paragraph and complete a simple listening activity.

Please find below a simple overview of the KS2 curriculum, should you require any further information about MFL  do not hesitate to contact Miss Hosford, MFL subject leader.
