LO: To identify the features of an explanation text

In this lesson we are going to be looking at the features of an explanation text. We have previously looked at an explanation text when we read the book 'Until I met Dudley' just before Christmas and when we looked at the life cycle of a plant in our 'Varmints' book. Remember, an explanation text is giving you information about something or a process. In this case we will be looking at the process of How Chocolate is made!

Listen carefully to the instructions and make sure you record your work in your book. Including your date and LO as I have put above!

LO: To derive addition and subtraction facts.

In this lesson we are going to be looking at deriving and addition and subtraction facts by scaling up by 10, 100 and 1000. Although this sounds complicated it really isn't! For example, if you know 2 + 3 = 5 then you also know that 20 + 30 = 50, 200 + 300 = 500 and 2000 + 3000 = 5000. The only thing that is changing is your place value columns with more zero's being added on. The first number is staying the same each time!

LO: What are the properties of solids, liquids and gases?

In this series of lessons, we are going to be looking at 'States of Matter'. This means that we are looking at how things are made up and their properties. For example we can see solids and liquids but can we always see gases? Remember, a property is something that can describe an object. For example a property of my desk is that it is hard or a property of a a teddy could be that it is soft or fluffy.
