'A dedicated community working together, nurturing a safe, happy school where all children can achieve their potential'

Year 2 Expectations

End of KS1 expectations

If a child does not pass the Phonics Screening check in Year 1, they will be able to resit in the month of June 2024.

The last compulsory KS1 SATS were administered in May 2023.  They will now be optional.  To help with teacher assessments, SATs papers will be administered during the month of May 2024.  They will complete a Maths: Arithmetic Paper and a Maths: Reasoning and Problem Solving Paper.  There will also be two Reading Booklets.

Reading:

In Year 2 the expectation is that children read daily. This needs to be recorded in their reading diary so that their books can be changed as and when needed.

Homework:

Homework will consist of daily reading, spelling and timetables on TT Rockstars. Reading books will be changed on a Monday. Please note: books will only be changed if it has been written in the reading diary that your child has read the book; at least 3 times (this is excluding chapter books). Spellings will be handed out at the beginning of each half term and will contain 6 weeks worth of spellings.

Children are set times table homework through Times Table Rockstars (please see the Maths page for further information). It is the expectation that this is completed weekly; if you cannot access the internet please do email the school office and I will arrange paper homework.

PE:

We will be doing outdoor PE on a Monday and indoor PE on a Thursday.  Children need to come to school on those days in full school PE kit for all types of weather.
