Year 2 Expectations

End of KS1 expectations

If a child does not pass the Phonics Screening check in Year 1, they will be able to resit in the month of June 2023.

At the end of Year 2 the children will take part in SATs. They will take a Maths: Arithmetic Paper; Maths: Reasoning and Problem Solving Paper; Reading Booklet; and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Paper. These will be taken in the Spring of 2023. If you have any questions about the SATs, please email the office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Reading:

In Year 2 the expectation is that children read daily. This needs to be recorded in their reading diary so that their books can be changed as and when needed. In Key Stage 1, we have Rocco the Reading Rhino who rewards children for reading for 3 or more days a week. If your child reads 3-4 days out of the week they will be rewarded with an extra 5 minutes playtime on a Friday. If they read 5-6 days out of the week they will be rewarded with an extra 10 minutes playtime on a Friday and if your child reads all 7 days out of the week then they will be rewarded with 15 minutes extra playtime on a Friday. Children's total reads will be added and once they reach 100 days of reading they are presented with a certificate and prize (this continues to every hundred reads; 200 and 300 also).

Homework:

Homework will consist of daily reading, spelling practise and timetables. Reading books will be changed on a Friday. Please note: books will only be changed if it has been written in the reading diary that your child has read the book; at least 3 times (this is excluding chapter books). Spellings will be handed out at the beginning of each half term and will contain 6 weeks worth of spellings. Children are set times table homework through Times Table Rockstars (please see the Maths page for further information). It is the expectation that this is completed weekly; if you cannot access the internet please do email the school office and I will arrange paper homework.

PE:

We will be doing PE on Monday and Wednesday. Children need to come to school on those days in full school PE kit for all types of weather. If you are unsure about appropriate PE kit please do email for clarification.
