British Values
British Values at Thorpe Lea
At Thorpe Lea we promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. We want to ensure to ensure children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background.
The government set out its definition of British values, encompassing:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We ensure that through our school aims, agreed class charters, curriculum and teaching, we promote respect and tolerance for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. As educators we have a duty to prepare our children for life in the Britain of today and to keep them safe.
We use the Kapow scheme of work for PSHE and Wellbeing, where British Values are mapped comprehensively throughout the curriculum. Furthermore, we ensure that enrichment opportunities and collective assembly time includes themes and content that promotes these values.
